ST Engineering enters Qatari defence market with $300 million MRO contract
ST Engineering has secured its first major contract in the Qatari defence market through a five-year agreement with Barzan Maintenance Shield. The deal marks a significant expansion for the Singaporean group’s Land Systems business as it seeks to strengthen its presence in the Middle East.

ST Engineering announced the breakthrough on 27 February, following the signing of a €315.00 million (£262.19 million/$313.37 million) contract to support the Qatar Emiri Land Forces (QELF).
The agreement covers comprehensive maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for the QELF’s diverse fleet of military land platforms. Work is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2026, with ST Engineering providing technical experts and workshop equipment on the ground in Qatar.
It will certainly be a diverse contract, Qatar deploys the following armoured vehicles:
- Leopard 2A7
- Piranha III
- AMX-10RC
- Fennek
- Ejder Yalcin
- Boxer.
The contract focuses on ensuring high levels of operational readiness through a combination of traditional engineering and new digital processes. “We are encouraged by the trust and confidence placed in us by Barzan and the Qatari Emiri Land Forces,” said Lim Kok Ann, President of Land Systems at ST Engineering.
He noted that the company remains committed to delivering dependable, long-term support by combining engineering expertise with on-the-ground execution to enhance lifecycle management.
Calibre comment: ST Engineering and its success abroad
ST Engineering has been steadily building its presence overseas and this contract appears to show that the company is gaining traction. The company is positioning itself for multiple markets including requirements in the UK and Finland. It has taken a patient approach and provides a comprehensive product offering. It has an established relationship with the Middle East, its marine division having provided design and technical assistance in the production of the Falaj-3 off-shore patrol vessel. The Falaj-3 is provided by the Abu Dhabi Ship Building company, and will be supplied to the UAE and Kuwait.
